Designer Showcase - Gail Shields-Miller
How We Work Together
Most people don't know that I spent two weeks white water rafting in the Grand Canyon with nothing more than a Swiss army knife and dry pair of socks - no makeup, no cell phone, no paint charts - and it was one of the most glorious times of my life. Gail brings this adventuresome spirit and love of life to all of her projects. Having been raised around her mother's successful design practice, she began her professional life in an unrelated field. As an avid painter, sculptor, and amateur home decorator, she eventually answered her true calling back to a career in interior design. Today, she has reached a level in the industry where she is a respected and highly acclaimed designer among her peers and has a clientele throughout the United States.

Shields and Company is recognized for its ability to mix design styles with beauty, comfort and elements of the unexpected. The firm works in both traditional and contemporary and will often combine the two. Her sense of scale, color and detail is always used to complement the personality and preferences of her clients. Whether she is using their favorite color, i.e., tomato red in the living room or accessorizing with an antique Korean wedding chest that might be a treasured heirloom, the resulting home is full of unpredictable elegance perfectly suited to the client.

Shields and Company's professional staff works closely with clients and craftsmen to ensure personal attention and high-quality results. Gail encourages her clients to be patient and enjoy the fluid, often-changing design process.

Projects designed by Shields and Company have been featured in Architectural Digest, New York Magazine, The New York Times, Interior Design, Elements of Living, New York Spaces and more than a dozen books. Gail is an allied member of the American Society of Interior Design and the International Interior Design Association. She is an active member of the Institute of Classical Architecture, the Museum of Art and Design and the Museum for Women in the Arts.
